Land Acknowledgement:

Petawawa is situated on the traditional lands of the Algonquin people. I honor and respect the enduring relationship that Indigenous peoples have with this land, and recognize their contributions to the history, culture, and future of this region.

About Petawawa:

Nestled in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, Petawawa is a vibrant community that seamlessly blends a dynamic beauty of nature.

As a town with a deep-rooted military presence, the culture of service and sacrifice is woven into the fabric of my town.

Growing up here as the child of a veteran, I have seen firsthand how the military’s influence has shaped my community, fostering a strong sense of pride, resilience, and camaraderie.

Roots of Resilience

My family, our community.

Roots serve as the foundation of our identity, giving us a sense of belonging. The community we are raised in—be it a neighborhood, cultural group, or a close town—instills values, traditions, and that shape our perspectives. These roots provide comfort and steady reminder of our origins as we navigate life's journey. Family often acts as a vital support system and source of strength, particularly within military families. As someone who grew up as a military child, I've witnessed how these families embody courage, sacrifice, and unity amidst constant change. Frequent relocations, long deployments, and the stress separation can be daunting. Yet, military families adapt, remain resilient and grow stronger together. Their interconnectedness forms a robust root system that is expanded from cost to cost, allowing us to support one another with unwavering love, that true strength lies not just in individuals, but in the communities created together.

Black Bear Beach

One of my favorite spots in town is Black Bear Beach, a serene beach and campsite where locals and visitors can unwind, enjoy the water, and take in the stunning views of the Ottawa River.

Fun Fact: One of my first jobs was lifeguarding at Black bear beach!

I often spend time swimming and reflecting by the water and Black Bear Beach is my go to spot!

Centennial Park

Centennial Park is the jewel of the Petawawa park system. Known by locals as the Catwalk, Centennial Park offers scenic backdrops, an Evergreen Stage, and a wedding gazebo making it a perfect spot for outdoor events or photo shoots, picnics etc.

Fun fact:  I took my high school Prom pictures here!

The Woodland Trails

The Woodland Trails are a 30- to 60-minute trail system through the forest and are excellent for hiking and snow showing. There is one large loop, as well as a few smaller trails to enjoy, including a loop extension on the western edge.

Fun Fact: This is the perfect trail for a morning walk! During the COVID-19 pandemic, I used to walk dogs on this trail daily; regardless of the season, this is my favorite trail!

The Container Market at the Civic Centre
