Shayla Le Coz BA, BWS, RSW
Resume summary:
Hi, I'm Shayla—an empathetic, creative, and community-rooted social worker with a deep passion for supporting others through connection, advocacy, and healing.
My career has been guided by the belief that meaningful change begins when people feel seen, heard, and supported. I currently work as a family counsellor, providing counselling to children, youth , individuals, and families—particularly those connected to the military community.
My journey as a Registered Social Worker is grounded in a strong academic foundation that includes a Bachelor of Social Work and a background in Child and Family Studies, as well as diverse practicum experiences in women’s shelters, children’s treatment facilities, and long-term care homes. These hands-on opportunities have reaffirmed my calling and allowed me to develop a trauma-informed, inclusive approach rooted in empathy and trust. Community service has always been a key part of who I am. I proudly volunteer with my local Military Family Resource Centre, where I support initiatives that uplift military families and foster connection. I’ve also spent several years as a youth camp volunteer, helping create empowering, joy-filled experiences for young people in a safe and nurturing environment. Most recently, I’ve begun partnering with a local urban flower farm to support community wellness through nature, creativity, and hands-on learning—an exciting extension of my passion for gardening and floral design.
As part of my commitment to professional growth, I regularly pursue ongoing education and advanced training. I hold an Advanced Certificate in Sexual Violence Prevention, and continue to expand my expertise through programs in trauma recovery, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and equity-informed mental health care.I believe that leadership is not about titles—it’s about using your gifts to uplift others. That’s what being a woman of influence means to me. I’m proud to share my professional journey here, including reference letters, my resume, and the training programs I’m currently engaged in. Together, they reflect a career—and a calling—built on heart, resilience, and a genuine love for helping others grow.
