Shayla Le Coz BA, BWS, RSW

Resume summary:

Hi, I'm Shayla—an empathetic, creative, and community-rooted social worker with a deep passion for supporting others through connection, advocacy, and healing.

My career has been guided by the belief that meaningful change begins when people feel seen, heard, and supported. I currently work as a family counsellor, providing counselling to children, youth , individuals, and families—particularly those connected to the military community.

My journey as a Registered Social Worker is grounded in a strong academic foundation that includes a Bachelor of Social Work and a background in Child and Family Studies, as well as diverse practicum experiences in women’s shelters, children’s treatment facilities, and long-term care homes. These hands-on opportunities have reaffirmed my calling and allowed me to develop a trauma-informed, inclusive approach rooted in empathy and trust. Community service has always been a key part of who I am. I proudly volunteer with my local Military Family Resource Centre, where I support initiatives that uplift military families and foster connection. I’ve also spent several years as a youth camp volunteer, helping create empowering, joy-filled experiences for young people in a safe and nurturing environment. Most recently, I’ve begun partnering with a local urban flower farm to support community wellness through nature, creativity, and hands-on learning—an exciting extension of my passion for gardening and floral design.

As part of my commitment to professional growth, I regularly pursue ongoing education and advanced training. I hold an Advanced Certificate in Sexual Violence Prevention, and continue to expand my expertise through programs in trauma recovery, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and equity-informed mental health care.I believe that leadership is not about titles—it’s about using your gifts to uplift others. That’s what being a woman of influence means to me. I’m proud to share my professional journey here, including reference letters, my resume, and the training programs I’m currently engaged in. Together, they reflect a career—and a calling—built on heart, resilience, and a genuine love for helping others grow.

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing this letter in regard to Shayla Le Coz and her participation in the Ms Regional Canada Pageant. I have had the privilege of working with Shayla in various capacities and have witnessed f irsthand her dedication, grace, and exemplary qualities that made her a standout candidate for the title of Ms Regional Canada 2025. Shayla attended the Northeastern Self-Growth Program held in Kapuskasing in May 2022 as a member of my volunteer team. One of her standout qualities is her ability to work exceptionally well with children. Whether assisting with activities, providing guidance, or ensuring a fun and supportive environment, she consistently demonstrated a natural rapport and genuine care for their well-being. This ability made a significant positive impact on our program, and both parents and staff alike have commented on her exceptional connection with the children. In fact, Shayla created a cheer for the event that will forever remain in the memories of the program. In addition to being great with children, Shayla proved to be highly proactive in problem-solving. She consistently anticipated challenges and took the initiative to find solutions before issues could escalate. This forward-thinking approach helped maintain smooth operations and contributed to a positive experience for everyone involved. Furthermore, Shayla demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills throughout her time with us. Whether addressing challenges on the spot or brainstorming solutions with the team, she approached problems with a calm and methodical mindset, finding effective solutions in a timely manner. Shayla is not only a reliable and hardworking individual but also a pleasure to work with. She consistently showed a positive attitude and interacted well with other team members. Her strong commitment to the mission of our organization was evident in all that she did. I have no doubt that Shayla will excel in any future endeavors. I wholeheartedly recommend her for any role or opportunity she chooses to pursue. She would be an excellent representative for Ms Regional Canada 2025.
